For Nannies

Join the North Star Nannies community

We are building a network of exceptional childcare professionals who share our belief that children deserve warm, respectful and reliable care.

North Star Nannies is preparing to launch its nanny services over time across Switzerland. We are not currently recruiting or hiring, but we are inviting experienced nannies to join our waitlist.

By joining the waitlist, you will be among the first to hear when we begin accepting nanny applications.

Our approach to childcare

Our approach is influenced by Finnish childcare values: warmth, respect, independence, play and clear but gentle boundaries. We believe children should have the opportunity to explore their world, develop at their own pace and feel secure in the presence of their caregiver.

We value nannies who encourage:

  • Free and imaginative play

  • Outdoor time and movement

  • Age-appropriate independence

  • Emotional awareness and co-regulation

  • Respectful and reliable communication

  • Clear and consistent boundaries

  • Curiosity and exploration

  • A calm and supportive daily rhythm

You don't need to follow a specific childcare philosophy, like Montessori etc. What matters most is that your approach is respectful, thoughtful and child-centered.

Who we are looking for

More than experience on paper

We believe that being an excellent nanny is about much more than having the right qualifications. We are looking for caring, responsible and genuinely passionate childcare professionals who understand that working with children is both a privilege and a responsibility.

We value nannies who are:

  • Warm & nurturing
You create a safe and caring environment where children feel comfortable, understood and valued.

  • Reliable & responsible
Families need to know that they can depend on you.

  • Engaged & present
You enjoy being actively involved in children's everyday lives rather than simply supervising them.

  • Respectful
You treat children as individuals and communicate with them with patience and respect.

  • Confident & professional
You are comfortable taking responsibility while knowing when to communicate with parents or ask for support.

  • Adaptable
Every family is different. You can adjust to different routines, personalities and parenting styles while maintaining professional boundaries.

What we value in our nannies

Experience and education

Depending on the family's needs, relevant experience may include newborn and infant care, caring for multiple children, overnight care, travel with families, long-term nanny positions, babysitting and occasional childcare.

We value both practical experience and relevant education. A formal childcare qualification is not necessarily required for every position, but relevant education, training and a genuine understanding of child development can be valuable strengths. We look at the whole person, not simply the number of years on a CV.

Professionalism

As a nanny, you are invited into a family's private home and become an important part of their children's lives. We therefore value discretion and confidentiality, punctuality, clear and reliable communication, reliability, respect for family routines and privacy, professional boundaries, and a proactive attitude.

Languages

Fluent English is required for all our nannies. English is the primary language we use within North Star Nannies and our main language for communication with families, colleagues and during the recruitment process.

Depending on the family, other useful languages may include for example German, Swiss German, French, Spanish, Italian or other languages. Language requirements will vary from family to family.

Practical Requirements

In addition to childcare experience and language skills, certain practical requirements are important depending on the position and the family's needs.

  • Right to Work in Switzerland
Nannies must have the legal right to work and reside in Switzerland for the position they are being considered for. North Star Nannies does not sponsor work permits or visas. Nannies must already have the legal right to live and work in Switzerland. Joining our nanny waitlist does not guarantee a position or eligibility for employment.

  • First Aid Certification
A valid paediatric or general first aid certification is highly valued. For positions involving newborns or young children, appropriate first aid training may be required.

  • Driving License
A valid driving license can be an important advantage, particularly for families living outside city area or for positions that involve kindergarten and school drop offs/pick ups, activities or transporting children. Access to a car may also be required for certain positions.

  • References
Professional childcare references are an important part of our recruitment process. We will ask for references from previous families or other relevant childcare employers.

  • Background Checks & Documentation
As part of our recruitment process, suitable candidates will be asked to provide relevant documentation and complete appropriate background or safeguarding checks.

Before joining the waitlist

You don't need to know exactly what your future nanny position will look like. However, it can be helpful to think about

  • What kind of childcare do you enjoy most?

  • What kind of schedule suits you?

  • How far are you willing to travel?

  • What are your strengths?

Perhaps you are particularly confident with newborns, love outdoor activities, speak several languages, are creative, have a background in education or simply have a natural ability to connect with children. These details can help us understand what types of families may be a good fit for you in the future.

Please note the following:

We are currently building our nanny network and are not recruiting yet. Joining the waitlist does not mean that you are applying for a current position or that a position is guaranteed.

When recruitment opens, we will review our network and contact nannies whose experience, availability and preferences match the families we work with.

We are looking for nannies who are committed to providing professional, warm and reliable childcare and who are interested in building a long-term relationship with the right family.

If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
