Meet your Nanny

Lotta Sipilä

My name is Lotta, I’m originally from Oulu, Finland and now based in Basel, Switzerland. I've spent over eight years caring for children in private families in Finland, Spain and now Switzerland. In Finland I have also worked in Finnish kindergartens.

Caring for children has always been more than a profession for me – it is something I genuinely love and feel privileged to be part of.

My work combines practical experience with ongoing studies in Education and Psychology, allowing me to support children's emotional, social and cognitive development in everyday life.

While I have experience caring for children of all ages, my greatest passion and expertise lie in newborn, baby and toddler care. The first years of life are a unique and important time of growth, and I love creating a calm, nurturing environment where young children feel safe, understood and encouraged to explore the world around them.

My goal is to provide families with reliable, professional and loving childcare – becoming a trusted support during one of the most important stages of your child's life.

My Philosophy

I believe children thrive when they feel safe, genuinely heard and loved with clear boundaries. My goal is not simply to supervise children, but to build trusting relationships that encourage independence, confidence and joyful learning through everyday experiences. Growing up and studying in Finland, the base of my childcare philosophy comes from Finnish Early Childhood Education.

My experience

My childcare journey began at 16 as a babysitter, later developing into private nanny work with families in Finland, Spain and Switzerland. Over the past eight years, I have cared for children from newborns to school age, including twins, multiple children and children with special needs, including autism.

My experience includes newborn care, sleep support, daily routines, traveling with families and age-appropriate activities such as baby swimming. I have also supported families through different stages of childhood and adapted to a wide range of family routines and parenting styles.

I am particularly passionate about newborn and baby care. Parents often describe me as calm, patient and attentive, with a natural ability to recognise children's needs and help babies settle and sleep.

Alongside nannying, I spent three years teaching ballet and dance to children aged 4–15 and later helped establish and run a dance school in Oulu, Finland.

About North Star Nannies

North Start Nannies was founded in August 2026 with the vision of bringing professional, reliable and high-quality childcare services to families in Switzerland.

As a CEO, I’m responsible for the daily operations and development of the business. With my previous experience founding and managing a nanny agency in Finland, I bring practical expertise in building trusted relationships between families and professional caregivers.

During the first stage, our focus is on supporting families in the greater Basel region and creating a strong foundation for our services. As we grow, our goal is to support families throughout Switzerland.

We are committed to providing families with safe, dependable and personalised childcare. Through our recruitment process, we ensure that our nannies complete the necessary background checks, including criminal record checks, and meet Swiss requirements to work legally in Switzerland. This gives families peace of mind knowing they are receiving professional, trustworthy and compliant childcare support.
