For Families

Childcare that fits your family

Finding the right person to care for your children is a personal decision. At North Star Nannies, we take the time to understand your family, your routines and what matters most to you before matching you with the right childcare professional.

Whether you need regular nanny care, newborn support, occasional babysitting or help during a particularly busy period, we are here to make the process simple and personal.

Before you start

Think about your childcare needs

You do not need to have a perfect job description before contacting us, but it helps to think about a few basics.

Schedule

How often do you need childcare? Is it a few hours per week, several full days, monring or afternoons, evenings, occasional or irregular, a temporary arrangement or long-term? Also consider whether your schedule is fixed or likely to change.

Responsibilities

Think about what you would like your nanny to be responsible for. Childcare responsibilities may include for example caring for your children, preparing simple meals and snacks for children, feeding, nap and bedtime routines, taking children outdoors or to activities and school or kindergarten drop-offs/pick-ups.

Be clear about what you do not expect your nanny to do as well. We believe children benefit most from a caregiver who can be fully present. Our nannies therefore focus exclusively on childcare and child-related responsibilities, rather than general household duties.

Your child's routine

Think about the parts of your child's day that are important to maintain. This could include wake-up and bedtime routines, nap schedules, meals, favorite activities, outdoor time, comforting and settling, kindergarten or school routines.

Questions to ask yourself

Before looking for a nanny, consider:

  • What are your three most important criteria?

  • What qualities are essential, and what would simply be a bonus?

  • What childcare experience does your family genuinely require?

  • What are your expectations around boundaries and discipline?

  • What does a typical day look like for your children?

  • How much flexibility do you need?

  • What responsibilities should the nanny have, and what should remain your responsibility as parents?

  • What kind of personality would fit naturally into your family?

It can be tempting to create a very long list of requirements. Instead, we recommend identifying a few non-negotiables and remaining open to the person behind the CV.

How it works

1. Tell us what you need

Start by completing our enquiry form for getting in touch with us directly.

Tell us about your children, your preferred schedule, where you are located and what you are looking for in a nanny. You do not need to have everything figured out at this stage. Your initial enquiry is completely non-binding.

2. Let's talk

We will contact you to learn more about your family and discuss your childcare needs.

This is an opportunity for us to understand your routines, expectations and priorities, as well as answer any questions you may have about our services.

3. Define your ideal match

Together, we will identify the qualities and experience that are important for your family.

Some families prioritise newborn experience, while others are looking for someone active and outdoorsy, multilingual, particularly experienced with several children or simply someone whose personality feels like a natural fit.

4. Meet your nanny

Once we have identified a suitable nanny, we will arrange an introduction.

We encourage families to meet and speak with the nanny before making a decision. This gives everyone the opportunity to see whether the relationship feels right.

For longer-term arrangements, a trial period or trial day can also be discussed where appropriate.

5. Confirm the arrangement

Once you have found the right match, we will confirm the details of your childcare arrangement, including schedule, responsibilities, rates and practical expectations.

Only once the arrangement is agreed will the booking become binding.

6. Enjoy peace of mind

Our goal is for you to feel confident and comfortable from the very beginning.

We remain available if questions arise and can support you throughout your childcare arrangement.

Ready to find your match?

You don't need to have everything figured out before contacting us. Tell us a little about your family, your childcare needs and what you are looking for. We will take it from there. Your first enquiry is non-binding and does not commit you to booking our services or entering into an agreement.
